Mariners that successfully complete TRLMI’s Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (RFPNW) course will satisfy the specific assessments below of Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) No. 06-14 for Guidelines on Qualification for STCW Endorsements as RFPNW.

Through the use of classroom presentation discussing the Rules of the Road, proper ship handling procedures, and Orange Coast College’s simulator, candidates will demonstrate the specific practical assessment skills below that are needed for a Rating Forming Part of A Navigational Watch (RFPNW) with no restrictions. The purpose of this session is for the completion of specific RFPNW assessments only. YOU MUST OBTAIN YOUR SEATIME SEPARATELY.

The following RFPNW assessments will be satisfied by successful completion of this course:

NVIC 06-14(Ch-3) Tasks 1.1.A, 1.1.B, 1.1.C, 1.2.A, 1.2.B, 1.2.C, 1.2.D, 1.2.E, 1.2.F, 1.2.G, 1.2.H, 1.2.I, 1.3.A, 1.3.B, 2.1.A, 2.1.B, 2.1.C, 3.1.A, 3.2.A, 3.3.A, 3.3.B, 3.4.A, 3.4.B, 3.5.A, 3.5.B.

Important Note: NVIC 06-14 Tasks 3.6.A and 3.6.B ARE NOT INCLUDED in this course. Tasks 3.6.A and 3.6.B must be completed separately on board your ship by a qualified assessor. You cannot obtain the RFPNW Rating until these are completed. Please refer to the USCG NVIC 06-14 for more details.

APPLICANTS NEED NOT PRESENT COMPLETED “CONTROL SHEETS” TO NMC FOR THESE ASSESSMENTS IN APPLICATION FOR STCW CERTIFICATION.

Tasks 3.6.A and 3.6.B must be completed separately on board your ship by a qualified assessor. The U.S. Coast Guard will not issue you RFPNW rating if these tasks are not completed. Please refer to the USCG NVIC 06-14 for more information and the Assessment sheet for these tasks.
