Mariners that successfully complete TRLMI’s Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch Assessments course will satisfy the requirements of the standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.609(3); Section A-III/4 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 07-14 CH-2, all Tasks. Applicants using this approval to apply for endorsement as RFPEW must provide evidence of at least 6 months of seagoing service as required by 46 CFR 12.609(2)(i); that involves experience associated with engine room functions and involves the performance of duties carried out under the direct supervision of an engineer officer or a qualified STCW rating.
This course provides to mariners experience and training in engine room operation on vessels of any propulsion mode for completion of STCW Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW) assessments. Through the use of classroom presentations, TRLMI’s Engine Room Simulator, and on shipboard training evolutions, candidates will demonstrate the practical assessment skills needed for an RFPEW with no restrictions. The purpose of the sessions are for completion of the RFPEW Assessments only. THE MANDATED SEA SERVICE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED SEPARATELY.
Each individual will demonstrate the proper procedures to carry out watch routine required for the duties of a RFPEW, and obtain the knowledge, understanding, and proficiency in the use of terms used in machinery spaces and names of the various machinery equipment, including safe working practices related to engine room operations. Basic environmental protection procedures will be stressed as well as the use of appropriate internal communication systems and engine room alarm systems.
