Mariners successfully completing TRLMI’s Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) course will satisfy the GMDSS training requirements of 46 CFR 111.305(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR 11.307(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR 11.309 (a)(4)(xv); 46 CFR 11.311(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR 11.313(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR 11.315(a)(3)(vi); and 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(ix) AND the requirements of 46 CFR 11.604, to meet Section A-IV/2 of the STCW code as amended.
Effective January 1st, 2023: the courses taking place in 2023 will satisfy:
The GMDSS training requirements of 46 CFR 11.305(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR 11.307(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(xv); 46 CFR 11.311(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR 11.313(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR 315(a)(3)(vi); and 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(ix).
This course is required for officers who serve on vessels equipped with GMDSS equipment.
Successfully passing both the Element 1 and Element 7 FCC Examinations are required to receive the endorsement as a GMDSS operator.
Students successfully completing this course will be able to efficiently operate the GMDSS equipment, and be able to assume primary responsibility for operation of the Distress equipment during an incident.
