Captain’s License Upgrade: OUPV or Master Inland to Master Near Coastal (UPGRDONL) Online

This twenty-four (24) hour USCG Approved Online (distance learning) course will satisfy all the examinations for upgrade of a merchant mariner credential from OUPV Near Coastal or Great Lakes & Inland or Inland Waters TO a credential of Master or Mate of not more than 100 gross tons upon Near Coastal, or Great Lakes & Inland or Inland Waters;

OR increase the scope of a credential of Master or Mate of not more than 100 gross tons upon Great Lakes & Inland or Inland Waters TO Master or Mate of not more than 100 gross tons upon Near Coastal Waters.

When you are finished with the online course you will take your proctored USCG Approved final exams IN-PERSON at one of our approved locations. Our final exam testing locations are currently only in: Alameda and San Diego, California; Honolulu, Hawaii.

Class Requirements:

To obtain the credential, you MUST meet the sea time and tonnage requirements for the credential you are seeking. If you are unsure if you meet this requirement, please contact Student Services for information.

You have up to 4 weeks to complete the online course starting on the date that TRLMI sends you your course log-in email. THERE ARE NO EXTENSIONS past this 4-week time frame.

When you are finished with the online course you will take your proctored USCG Approved final exams at one of our approved locations. Our online course final exam testing locations are currently only in: Alameda and San Diego, California; Norfolk, VA; Honolulu, Hawaii. We test by appointment only. Upon successful completion of the final exams you will receive a course Certificate of Training that is valid for 1 year to be submitted to the USCG.

Once enrolled, you will receive access to the Online Portal within 2-3 business days via email.
